Dreamline Corps
Program Description: Dreamline Corps is a unique partnership between the Sanneh Foundation and urban public schools serving at-risk kids. Through DreamLine Program, the Foundation seeks to provide in-school academy support and afterschool leadership skills building to improve academic performance and increase the capacity for youth to become productive adults. By providing in-school academic support throughout the year, the Foundation will help to improve students’ academic performance. In the same token, by engaging students in leadership practices and soccer activities, the foundation seeks to connect students to schools and communities, to promote a sense of value and belonging and to build students’ capacity to become leaders.
In-School Academy Support: Throughout the year, students are provided with academic support that includes tutoring, study hall support, reading/writing coaching, scholarship researching, college searching. In small group or at individual level, the DreamLine Corps program staff provides on-going support to students and teachers, and plays a significant role in shaping the academic performance of student participants.
After-School Leadership Program: During the Foundation’s after-school leadership program, students are engaged in learning five key leadership practices and applying these practices during the interactive game of soccer. The leadership program “Model the Way” provides youth with opportunities to learn about goal setting, personal values,
trust, ways we are influenced, taking risks, leadership qualities, the value of
service to others, etc. through games, activities, writing exercises, skits,
and small/large group discussions.
Program Staff: The program is implemented by well-trained full-time AmeriCorps members who serve as mentors, tutors and role models. The unique relationship that program staff builds during the afterschool activities is unique asset in our academic
and social mentoring efforts of at-risk students.
